Road to ViBGYOR 2012
Activities leading to the Annual Festival:
a. ViBGYOR Touring Festivals:
The 6th ViBGYOR International Film Festival held at Thrissur from 12-17 January 2011, was later extended to the whole state in a year-round schedule. Selected packages from previous years and prominent socially relevant films are being shown in other parts of the state, especially small towns and villages with the collaboration of film societies and other interested groups. The ViBGYOR personnel ensures the films selected for screening are communicated well to the non-literate (visually illiterate) audience by taking the role of a translator or interpreter and also by including local representatives in the film selection process.
b. Campus ViBGYOR:
The Project team has started visiting schools and colleges in Thrissur district and in collaboration with platforms in the campuses, and film screenings are being organized along with discussions and debates. Festivals of 1-3 days duration are organized. During the Campus ViBGYOR, short fiction and documentary films that appeal and question young minds are showcased. There are interactive sessions with filmmakers and activists along with the screenings. We are also building up a through the Campus ViBGYOR sessions.Young Volunteers Core Group
c. Village ViBGYOR:
We have already started this outreach programme. Film Festivals are organized in various Grama Panchayaths as a curtain raiser for the annual festival. There are screenings of documentary movies in the evenings at village centres for 3 days. During the day time, films are screened for school/higher secondary school students in the panchayath, showcasing short fiction and documentary films that can inspire and inform them. Evening screenings are for adults and interactive sessions with filmmakers are arranged, screening around 20 films in each Panchayath.
d. Film Workshop:
Just before the annual Film Festival, a Film Workshop is conducted in Thrissur, in a way that the last days of the workshop coincide with the festival and hence the participants can attend the Festival and interact with the filmmakers who attend the festival, in serious discourses. This Workshop meant for young filmmakers and students from across the country, we hope, will induce a sense of the larger society they live in and the deeper issues and concerns of its most needy sections.
